Saundra Ros Altman's: Past Patterns

#6517: Ladies' Dress. Circa 1913-1914.

The Vintage Revivals patterns are only one size; the original size. The pattern envelope, instructions and pattern pieces are unedited. The older the pattern the more likely it is to have limited instructions. The patterns are printed on blue line paper and packaged in plastic.

Pattern #6517: Ladies' Dress, in Clearing Length, with Slightly Raised Waistline; consisting of a Blouse-Waist, with High or Open Neck, Body in One with Full-Length or Shorter sleeve; and an Attached Four-Piece Skirt; with or without the Cutaway Peplum or Body Lining. Circa 1913-1914.

Size: 36" Bust, 25" Waist and 40" Hip. Finished front below waistline 41". Lower edge [width] of skirt 1-5/8 Yds.

The pattern is described as, "The loose, easy fit of this waist [blouse], the soft drapery effect around and under the arm is very fashionable. The blousing of waist and extra length in sleeve are good style and permit raising the arm comfortably. No attempt should be made to fit the waist closely to the figure."

This pattern was published by The Butterick Publishing Co. in New York, London and Paris. The directions are written on the back of the pattern envelope and include a diagram of pattern pieces labeling the center fronts, plackets, etc. and the Outlet seam allowance. An Outlet seam allowance is explained, "On certain edges of this pattern, an outlet allowance is provided for letting out the garment, if necessary. These edges are marked by large single perforations O O O O O through which the basting should be made. . . . On all other edges, 3/8 inch is allowed for seams and finishing, . . . ." The pattern contains thirteen pieces.

Suggested fabrics: Light weight wool, silk satin or taffeta and linen. The colors were solid pale cream, khakis, deep brown, greens, rose, purples and blues or combinations of these colors in plaids or stripes.
